Grand County Council Vacancy, District 1

Grand County Utah

Effective June 7, 2017, Council Member Chris Baird resigned from the elected District 1 position of the Grand County Council, leaving an unexpired term of approximately 18 months.

Chris spent more than a decade in local politics and community service, serving on multiple boards, commissions, and committees, including six-and-a-half years as a County Council Member—with a stated personal mission toward creating a better future for the next generation, and specifically for his own kids. “It is more important for me to spend the next one and a half years prioritizing my family...,” he said in his resignation letter.

The County Attorney has determined that the vacancy will be filled by appointment since less than two years remain in Baird’s term. Residents of District 1 (voting precincts 1 and 9) can file a declaration of candidacy with the County Clerk June 19th – June 23rd (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).  A petition with 25 signatures from District 1 must accompany the declaration.  The County Council is expected to hold an open Special Council Meeting during the last week of June to make the appointment from the list of eligible candidates.

Chris will be recognized during the 4PM June 20th County Council Meeting for his leadership and dedicated service to the citizens of Grand County.
