Babies and Toddlers

Baby and Toddler Summer Challenge (birth to 35 months)

June 1st - August 16th

List of live and recorded online library summer events for children!

This online summer challenge is designed for parents/caregivers and their babies ages birth to 35 months.  Preparing your child to learn how to read begins at birth!  Experts recommend reading to your child 15 minutes every day starting when they are born.  Reading aloud to a child is the single most important factor in a child’s interest in reading and their readiness to learn to read when they start school.

To complete this summer challenge you will read to your child for a total of 8 hours between June 1st - August 16th.  If you read 15 minutes a day, 4 times a week, you will complete this challenge before the end of July!

Every time your total reading minutes logged reaches another hour (up to 8 hours) you earn a virtual reading badge and a toy or book for your child.  See a list of reading rewards!

You can also earn virtual badges and tickets for our end of the summer special prize drawings by completing fun and easy early learning activities and continuing to read to our child and log minutes after you reach the 8 hour goal.  You will use Grand County Public Library’s Favorite Baby/Toddler Rhymes and Songs to complete some of our fun early learning activities!

The end of summer prize drawings include gift certificates to local businesses, and special baby/toddler toys.  See a complete list of prizes

You will track your progress online with our Beanstack Summer Challenge Website (website will be working starting June 1st) or by downloading the Beanstack Tracker app.

Logging reading minutes is really easy using our summer challenge app called Beanstack Tracker. The app even includes a reading timer!
