If you have a friendly and approachable style that tweens and teens connect with, love juvenile and teen literature, music and media, thrive on inventing innovative programming and have a curiosity to explore technology, online gaming, and social media, then being the Grand County Public Library Tween and Teen Services Library Assistant could be your dream job.

When hired, you will create amazing experiences for all our library customers, but particularly enjoy and focus on working with the tweens and teens.  You will have constant contact and collaboration with tweens and teens with very diverse backgrounds and abilities.  You will develop and implement outstanding tween and teen programs.  The successful candidate will be a natural leader and mentor, knowledgeable about library operations and respected for your ability to have customers of all ages leaving thrilled about the library.  You will need to be very tech-savvy and already have the ability to teach basic computer and software skills, and troubleshoot basic computer problems.  You will have or want to learn advanced technology skills like coding, online gaming, and using the social media sites/apps currently popular with tweens and teens (Instagram, YouTube, SnapChat, etc).  You will be a team-player who enjoys collaborating with your library co-workers, local non-profits, government entities, and the local schools in order to better serve tweens and teens.  You will need to be comfortable, kind, clear, and consistent when implementing the library’s progressive discipline procedure with tweens and teens.  You will act as a mentor and connect tweens and teens to resources and opportunities that reflect their interests and empower them to be builders of their own future.

Work Hours and Compensation  - The regular schedule will be 25 hours per week year round.  Starting wage is  $17.70 / hour.  This position is not eligible for benefits.  On school days you will start when school lets out and work at the library’s teen area/information desk.  On days which are school holidays, early-out school days, and over summer break, the schedule will change to cover the busiest times.  Days off will be Saturday and Sunday (except when you’ve scheduled a weekend tween/teen program).

Supervision Received - Works under the direct supervision of the Head of Children and Teen Services and the general supervision of the Library Director.

Supervision Exercised - Supervises tween and teen volunteers and community service workers.
