Subject: Plane crash

Location: Approximately one and one half mile south of Canyonlands Airport, Grand County, Utah
On the above date at 8:19 p.m. Grand County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a plane accident south of Canyonlands Airport.
Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County EMS, Moab Fire Department and Grand County Search and Rescue responded to the accident.
The location of the accident was N 38.729665, W109.751871. Area is sandy hills and sagebrush.
The aircraft is a Cessna 170A. Aircraft was complete loss.
Pilot: Nathan D. Rydman 46 yoa Moab, Utah resident
Passenger: Rani D. Derasary 47 yoa Moab, Utah resident.
Injuries: Serious non life threatening
On August 3, 2017 at approximately 7:43 p.m. the above plane and occupants departed Canyonlands Airport. According to information received concerning the weather conditions at that time there were sudden shifts in wind speed and wind direction and are believed to be a contributing factor in this accident.
FAA and NTSB were notified of the accident and the accident is still under investigation.
