Subject: Law enforcement pursuit of stolen vehicle and arrest of occupants.

Suspects;

1: Troy Wayne Melton(driver) 43 year old Caucasian male, Staunton, Virginia

2: Lisa Gail Bosserman(passenger) 43 year old Caucasian female, Staunton, Virginia

Charges:

1: Felony evading

2: Possession of a stolen vehicle

3: Reckless driving

4: Speeding

5: Possession of marijuana

6: Possession of paraphernalia

7: Suspended driver’s license

8: Weapon offense

Vehicle: 1998 Toyota Camry

On the above date at 8:52 a.m., a Deputy with the Grand County Sheriff’s Office encountered a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Lion’s Park at the intersection of SR 128 and SR 191 and ran a check on the license plate. The vehicle, a 1998 Toyota Camry came back as reported stolen out of Virginia. The deputy made contact with a male subject outside the vehicle who immediately entered the vehicle and into the driver’s seat ignoring the deputy’s orders to exit the vehicle. A female then exited the restrooms and approached the vehicle and after being ordered not to get into the vehicle she got into the front passenger seat and the vehicle and occupants fled from Lion’s park and then northbound on SR 191 with the deputy in pursuit. 

The vehicle then made a u-turn at the north end of the Colorado River bridge and fled southbound on SR 191 towards Moab. Moab City Police Officers then joined in the pursuit as the vehicle approached 400 N. Main and continued south through Moab. Suspect vehicle had reached speed of over 100 mph as it approached Moab. Pursuing units then slowed their speed as the vehicle went through Moab failing to stop at red lights and creating a hazard to other drivers.

The suspect vehicle was again pursued as it continued south on SR 191 and into San Juan County. The driver made several attempts to discourage the pursuit by slamming on its brakes and driving towards oncoming traffic.

The pursuit ended(9:14 a.m.) at milepost 106 in San Juan County when the suspect vehicle experienced mechanical problems and was no longer operable. The occupants were taken into custody at that location without further incident. The driver and passenger were booked into the Grand County Jail on numerous charges.
