On July 10, 2014, a report was made to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office of an overdue hiker. Robert Berquist, 66 year old male had failed to return to the Red Cliff Lodge after leaving at approximately 11:00 a.m. that morning to hike an area described as between milemarkers 31-33 on SR 128 or an area past Sorrel River Ranch. The overdue parties vehicle(gray Jeep Grand Cherokee) was located in the parking area of Fisher Towers. Grand County Search and Rescue, Classic Lifeguard Helicopter and Department of Public Safety Helicopter were contacted and assisted in the search for Mr. Berquist. Search and Rescue members found the body of Mr. Berquist at approximately 2:00 a.m. on July 11, 2014 near the Fisher Towers Trail. He was found after they had followed shoe tracks and discarded water bottles to his location. DPS helicopter assisted in the recovery of Mr. Berquist and he was flown out of the area to the Emergency Operations Center in Moab. Mr. Berquist was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City. The cause of death is pending. Mr. Berquist is from Duluth, Minnesota.
