The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fire that occurred at the above address. A report of smoke and fire was called into 911 dispatch at 3:40 p.m. by a neighbor. The area that burned totaled approximately 8.9 acres and was mostly grass and Russian Olive trees. A one story home sustained some damage that was mostly siding that had melted. The home was not inhabited. The residents of the homes in the area of the burn were asked to leave and access was controlled by law enforcement until it was safe to return. Moab Fire Department and BLM were able to quickly control the fire and keep the area burned relatively small. A helicopter was used to dump water taken from the pond on the golf course to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
