OPEN BURN PROCESS-
1- Determine the burn season window (see dates below)
2- Check the clearing index (see link below)
3- Obtain a free online permit (see link below)
4- Before you start your burn contact the Grand County Sheriff's Office Dispatch (435-259-4321)
Fall, Winter and Spring Burn Season- You MUST Obtain a burn permit BY CLICKING HERE from the Utah Division of Air Quality’s website before burning any material.
If assistance is needed to apply online, please call or visit Moab Valley Fire or FFSL Office (numbers listed at bottom of page).

Before you start your burn!
The permittee must notify Grand County Sheriff's Office Dispatch at (435) 259-4321.
NOTE: Burning may only occur during the open burn seasons when a DAQ permit is obtained. These permits are valid for one day at a time and do not allow burning inside Moab City Limits, only for unincorporated County Residents.
The link above provides statewide information regarding open burning. Note that a permit cannot be obtained if the Clearing Index is below the threshold.
If you need to obtain a burn permit outside these open burn windows in the CLOSED fire season, contact Grand County Fire Warden Bruce Jenkins at (435) 220-0179. Current Fire conditions are considered.
